LTL Shipping FAQs
What is LTL Shipping?
LTL stands for less than truckload. LTL Shipping refers to small shipments of freight to and from locations.
Benefits of LTL Shipping
The biggest benefit of LTL shipping is saving money. LTL Shipping doesn’t require you to hire an entire truck for shipments which means you split the cost of the truck with other companies.
Preparing Your Package for Shipment
You’ll want to make sure you prepare your freight for shipping with an LTL Carrier. Since shipments can sometimes be moved between trucks and locations, you’ll want to make sure your shipment is protected. Ways to protect your shipment are:
- When possible use pallets
- Package into crates
- Use shipping containers
- Wrap the shipment with plastic wrap or bubble wrap
- If shipping boxes make sure to fill the box with popcorn or some type of material that will keep the valuable inside from moving around and getting damaged
Another thing to add to your shipment before it’s picked up is a packing label on the outside that can easily be read by drivers. The packing label should include the carrier code, tracking number, destination, and any other valuable information you feel is important.
