Joe Wade
President

Originally from Burlington, NC, Joe Wade first came to Shelba D. Johnson Trucking in 1999 from Dixon Hughes, PLLC in High Point, NC as a financial consultant. Having worked at Lowe’s Companies, Collins & Aikman and Burlington Industries, Joe brought broad experience in cost accounting, operations, systems, finances and internal controls. Joe became sole owner of Shelba D. Johnson Trucking in April of 2002.

Joe Wade attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Joe also has a Bachelor of Administrative Science Degree in Accounting from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. In addition, Joe has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Duke University in Durham, NC. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of North Carolina.

Joe played football, ran track and wrestled at Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, NC. He was also intramural manager and dorm president while at UNC-Chapel Hill. Joe has also taught as an adjunct professor in business administration for Gardner Webb University.

In his free time, Joe enjoys attending and following Tar Heel sports, especially football and basketball. He plays a little golf here and there, enjoys going to the beach, reading, and working out at the YMCA when he has time. He likes to garden and especially enjoys planting tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables. Joe is also a beekeeper.

Joe and his wife Marie Wade have two sons, Joseph and Daniel, who both now work for the company.

Steve Gaffney
Chief Executive Office

Steve Gaffney is the Chief Executive Officer for Shelba D. Johnson Trucking.  Steve brings over 25+ years of experience in the Transportation/Logistic field with an extensive background in Business Finance.  He has a wealth of expertise and knowledge in both finance and supply chain management.  He began his career in 1990 with Westinghouse Electric Supply Company, where he quickly advanced.  Steve moved on to become the CFO and Vice President of Operations for Voyager Transportation, Inc. in 1994.

Steve's former experience also includes his tenure as CFO for Best Logistics Group.  President and Owner of JBS Transportation, Inc. President of Carolina Freightways, Inc.  CFO/Vice President and Co-Owner of Transpro Holding Group, Inc.  Mr. Gaffney has demonstrated success in his former roles through sales management & system/process improvements, including pricing & yeild management.  His leadership and quidance have resulted in additional business expansion for all companies he has served.

Steve graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  He received his master's degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University in 1993.  He also holds Cerifications as CPA, CFE, CRFAC, CFF, ABV and RFI.  

Daniel Wade
Corporate Secretary/Owner

Daniel Wade is Corporate Secretary for Shelba D. Johnson Trucking.  He supports the company's Board of Directors, helping oversee day-to-day company operations as well as helping set appropriate structural organization to optimize corporate governance matters.  In his role, he documents corporate meetings and publishes timely minutes resulting from Board decision-making.  He also assures Company governance functiions operate as envisioned, ensures compliance with certain statutory and regulatory requirements and follows-up to ensure decisions of the Board are implemented.  He provides accounting and management support for the company's Limited Liability Holding Companies.

Daniel joined Shelba D. Johnson Trucking in 2002.  He previously served in an Information Management support role for the company where he was instrumental in providing input to the framework for the company's Technology infrastructure.  Daniel utilized his analytical problem-solving skills and business acumen to help recommend and implement state-of-the-art technology solutions for the company.

Daniel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2015.  He is a self-driven and knowledgeable Corporate Secretary offering significant insights into various aspects of the company including communications, leadership skills, a highly professional attitude, and the ability to work in a fast-pace environment.

Richard Tucker
Vice President

As a long-time employee of Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, Inc., Richard Tucker is a valuable member of the company’s management team. He has served numerous positions in the company and exemplifies the company’s policy of trying to promote from within to reward dedication and willingness to take on more responsible assignments. He began as a truck driver, working for Red Johnson. His responsibilities progressed until he was responsible for a very important delivery route in New Jersey. He has also served as Warehouse Supervisor at our Turnpike Terminal Location. The company’s sales staff reports to Mr. Tucker, who is responsible for marketing our Shelba D. Johnson Warehousing Logistics and Shelba D. Johnson Trucking truckload and ‘Less-than-Truckload’ operations.

Carol Agee
Director of Human Resources

Carol has been with the company since 1998, first in payroll and later as Human Resources Director. She has over 30 years experience working with payroll and Human Resources. In her role at Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, she maintains all appropriate files required by regulatory and taxation agencies. She makes sure the company is compliant with all labor and regulatory laws. She works as liaison with ADP, the company’s payroll processing agent. 

Carol says “Working for a company where you are appreciated and where people do not mind lending a hand when needed is wonderful.” She also thinks the employees at Shelba D. Johnson Trucking are the best! She adds that “it is a blessing to have a job where you don’t dread to go everyday. For that I am very thankful.”

Carol has been married to her husband John for over 30 years and they have five children; Hope, John, Jason, Venessa and Travis. She grew up in Darlington, Maryland and now resides in Denton, NC. Carol likes fishing, reading, restoring old photos and cooking. She especially likes spending time with her grandchildren.
Ron Russo
Operations Manager

Ron Russo - Operations Manager for Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, brings over 25 years of experience working in the logistics and furniture supply chain industry.  Ron’s expertise includes an in depth understanding of logistics and dispatching along with the ability to interact and work effectively with both customers and vendors while always maintaining a high level of integrity. 

Ron began his career as an Owner-Operator prior to coming to Shelba D. Johnson Trucking which provided him the necessary skills and understanding to perform the various duties of an Operations Manager.  Ron is a driven dispatcher with excellent leadership and problem-solving abilities.  He is highly organized and proactive with a solid understanding of scheduling actions, adjusting routes, and prioritizing issues. 

When Ron is not collaborating with his customers and providing logistic solutions, he can be seen enjoying baseball but most of all he enjoys quality time with his wife, children, and grand babies.  Ron believes in the simplicity in life and work.  He focuses on what is important and knows success will reveal itself.  “Take care of your people, focus on the customer and act on what is important”.

Tim Harris
Terminal Manager

Tim Harris is the Terminal Manager for Shelba D. Johnson Trucking - Bath, Pennsylvania warehouse.  Tim has over 30 years in the trucking industry.  As the Terminal Manager, Tim has developed efficient and effective procedures to ensure delivery of furniture to our clients in a timely manner, while ensuring that the operation complies with a variety of federal and state laws that regulate the trucking and transportation industry.

Tim has worked his way up from the loading docks to Terminal Manager by learning every aspect of the business.  Currently, Tim oversees 36+ employee and his duties include, coordinating freight/deliveries, verifying, and reviewing paperwork such as bills of lading, assigning responsibilities to employees, enforcing compliance policies, and communicating with customers to provide updates and resolve issues.

When Tim is not hard at work in the warehouse, he enjoys riding his Harley-Davidson.  As a motorcycle enthusiast, Tim likes the to get away from the day-to-day activities to enjoy the freedom he feels from riding his bike.  Above all else, Tim is a family man.  He values his family above all else and devotes his spare time to spending quality time with them.
