Letter From the President
I am very gratified to have the opportunity to serve our industry. Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, Inc. has approximately 4,000 active customers in 23 states and territories along the eastern seaboard of the United States, some mid-western states and out to Texas. We employ about 370 employees in many disciplines from truck drivers to mechanics. Our customer base represents premier retail organizations as well as home decorators and ‘Mom and Pop’ furniture stores. Our shippers include the traditional furniture manufacturers, importers, marketers, internet entrepreneurs and avant garde contemporary furniture creators. With a fleet of 165 trucks and 500 trailers operating from two terminal locations, we service our customers by delivering freight in a pristine manner on a daily basis. Our trucks will travel in the range of 18 million miles this year.
Our dedicated employees endeavor to provide exemplary service to our customers by picking-up, processing and delivering furniture in a timely manner. Depending on location of the customer, this can be as quick as 2 – 3 days from pick-up, and sometimes quicker in expedited situations. Deliveries beyond 10 days are rare. We will process well in excess of 1 million pieces of furniture this year. Our employees strive to solve customer problems before the customers know there is a problem.
Technology and teamwork are watchwords at our company. We can provide information regarding shipments in a near real-time manner. We image our key documents and have them at our fingertips, readily available as information for our customers. We have sound back-office functions including returns, claims, dispatch, automated billing, collection, driver and equipment tracking, and fuel management. We offer import logistics including warehousing, barcode tracking, on-line inventory management and order fulfillment, with over 300,000 square feet of warehouse space under direct company management.
Simply put, we want to be considered a world class company with a down-to-earth feel to our customers. We can provide EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) solutions while at the same time offering our customers hands-on and back-of-the-envelope feel.I go to bed each night thinking of the responsibility I have for 370 employees and their families. My intent is for the company to survive and thrive into the future, serving our customer base as “Red” and Shelba Johnson would want.
