Originally from Burlington, N. C., Joe first came to Shelba D. Johnson Trucking in 1999 from Dixon Hughes, PLLC in High Point, NC as a financial consultant. Having worked at Lowe’s Companies, Collins and Aikman and Burlington Industries, Joe brought broad experience in cost accounting, operations, systems, finances and internal controls. Shelba Johnson passed away in December, 2000. Joe’s expertise in managing cash flows and administrative processes allowed the company to continue on its existing path. Red Johnson was so impressed with Joe’s rapport with company employees and other stakeholders that he asked Joe Wade to become his partner. In October, 2001, Joe Wade became 50% owner of the company. Following Red Johnson’s death in April, 2002, Joe became sole owner of Shelba D. Johnson Trucking.
Joe Wade attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from which he attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Joe also has a Bachelor of Administrative Science Degree in Accounting from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Joe has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Duke University in Durham, NC. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of North Carolina.
Joe enjoys attending and following Tar Heel sports and especially football and basketball. He plays a little golf here and there, enjoys going to the beach, reads and enjoys his workouts at the YMCA when he has time. He likes to garden and especially enjoys planting tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables. Joe is also a beekeeper. Joe played football, ran track and wrestled at Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington, NC. He was also intramural manager and dorm president while at UNC-Chapel Hill. Joe has also taught as an adjunct professor in business administration for Gardner Webb University.
Joe is married to Marie Snipes who is from Greensboro, NC. Marie has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Gardner Webb University and works at the company in event planning and public relations. They have two sons. Joseph is a senior at UNC-Wilmington. Daniel is a freshman at NC State University.
